Mona and I made the decision to follow the path of the man on the left. We are fully aware that it needs discipline in fitness and nutrition to go this way.

The muscles are of key importance for health at old age. We know too many elderly who look almost like “walking skeletons” as they neglect this important part of life. At age 65, many people lost already 40% of their muscle mass. Of course, the most easy and cheap way is to say “that is natural and comes with aging” … that is totally not true.
Everybody is him or herself fully responsible for his or her own health. For muscles it is the same as for the brain: Use it or Lose it.
And our body is tremendously fast when it comes to getting rid of muscles that are not used. So be aware, not only the Testosterone level diminishes fast with aging, but also your muscle need regular strength exercise and your requirement for daily Protein intake increases with age. And don’t forget, your sensitivity for thirst is reducing with age, so see that you still get your at least 2 Liter of healthy liquid (water, fruit juices, veggie juices etc) every single day, more if you do sports or exercise.

We have therefore now extended our Gym Fitness Program to 3 Evenings per week (Sunday, Wednesday and Friday Evening, with alternative days if a day is not possible), at which we do 30 min Cardio (Elliptical), 1 hr Equipment and then some Strength Training as outlined by our Fitness Instructor (Fiona). After that, about 30 min swimming … that is a typical Gym Evening. And I have to say, we feel so good after a gym evening, not only psychologically but of course also physically.
Apart from that, we take great care to get to our 1 to 1.2g of Protein per kg body weight a day and as this is almost impossible go get (like 120g a day for Albert) with regular diet, we do take Protein Supplements. We cut out the rice at our daily lunch and take therefore one more vegetable instead. Zero Alcohol as well as lots of fruits and vegetables and fermented food is helping us on our path.
